NYX is known for their casino and bingo software and have recently made a foray into top end slots. Astro is 5 reel space themed slot which offers 20 pay lines and an interactive bonus feature. It also features a character that looks suspiciously like Ming the Merciless, which can only be a positive feature in our opinion.

Astro Slot Theme

As the name suggests, Astro is themed around a futuristic galaxy which appears to be a cross between Captain Scarlet and Flash Gordon. The reels are filled with various outer space items including phaser guns, cute girls, a hero type character, Ming the Merciless, aliens, spaceships and spacemen. The symbols remain largely inanimate, only flashing when a win spins in, the two exceptions to this are the wild and scatter symbols which are animated.

Gameplay is very straight forward with all the buttons, including the pay table, located at the bottom. When playing you can set the coin value from a minimum of 0.10 to a maximum of 10 per coin, 1 to 5 coins can be bet per line and 1 to 20 lines can be selected per spin. This means you can play for a minimal 0.10 or max out an eye watering 1000 per spin.

NYX has also included a 5x and 10x button so you can choose from either for the desired number of spins.

Astro slot features

There are really only three features to speak of, three or more alien UFO scatter symbols sets of the free spins feature. During free spins the current line setting is played, it doesn’t unlock all lines like on other slots - free spins can be retriggered though.

The bonus round is a little more exciting, it is unlocked with three or more alien ‘moonbases’ (aliens to you and I). During this round you are tasked with shooting at craters which contain aliens, kill an alien and receive a prize.

The final feature involves the evil character, for arguments sake lets call him ‘Ming’. This is the wild symbol and can replace of any other symbol apart from the scatter and bonus ones. His head emits a circular pattern, but don’t worry he can’t control your mind - or can he?

Astro is a great looking slot which is easy to play, the features are simple yet enjoyable and should you feel the need you can set and forget with the 5x or 10x auto mode.
