Arrr me hearties, this be a pirate themed slot from Chatwell gaming. If you didn't get understand that, we think that's how a pirate might described this game! Roughly translated, we'd say Pirate Treasure is a three reel video slot based on the ever popular exploits of a stereotypical pirate.

Pirate Treasure Theme

The designers have used a treasure chest graphic to cleverly hold the reels, paytable and buttons. The reels protrude slightly from the chest whilst a twin sectioned paytable is mounted within the lid.

The paytable is split in two to show potential prizes when wagering either one or two coins. It also shows all the different reel icons which all have a nautical or pirate theme. These include anchors, gold doubloons, pirates, barrels of grog, Jolly Rogers and parrots.

As this is a three reel slot we found it a doodle to setup and a thoroughly enjoyable experience to play. It was really nice to get back to basics, with a few positive surprises thrown in for good measure (read about the features later).

Betting Options and Other Functions

Coin values can be changed using the up and down arrows on the console which looks a ships compass. Players are able to choose from coins which range from 0.25 to $5 in value. The buttons beneath the reels change between one and two coin bets which means you can wager anything from 0.01 to £/€/$10 per play.

Pirate Treasure Slot Features

Three reel slots usually don't offer any features which is why we were so pleased to see that Pirate Treasure does. For a start it offers a wild icon where Black Beard (the pirate) can substitute for any other icon. When this happens your win will also be doubled or quadrupled if two are used.

There are also plenty of mixed prizes, where different icons can combine on the payline. This differs from other slots which insist that icons must all be the same to award a payout. Therefore this technically means winning a prize is much more likely.

Our Take on Pirate Treasure

We think Chartwell have done a great job at combining a traditional format with modern features. Slots like this prove that there's still a place for three reel slots.
