On A Storm, a colt sired by Storm Cat, brought a final bid Tuesday of $2.8 million, the highest price of more than 200 racing prospects offered over two nights at the Fasig-Tipton Sale of Selected Yearlings.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, of Dubai, easily the leading buyer at the sale—he spent $10.3 million for nine yearlings—purchased On A Storm. The final bid was made by representative John Ferguson.

Two final bids over $1 million, the first for a filly by Storm Cat ($1.5 million) and the other for a colt by A.P Indy ($1.45 million) failed to meet their reserve prices.

Sheikh Mohammed also took away the second most-expensive yearling, Invasor— a colt by Distorted Humor and a half-brother to the South American champion. Invasor, a Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year, went for $900,000.

He also purchased a colt by Medaglia d’ Oro, sire of current 3-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, from the Theatrical mare Kendall Hill, for $850,000.

Sheikh Mohammed purchased the three highest price yearlings offered during the sale’s first session on Monday for a total of $4 million, including a filly by Medaglia d’Oro from the Storm Cat mare Cat Dance for $1.5 million.

Maybe its just me but i think 2.8 million for a one year old horse is a HUGE risk...but i guess if you got the money it might be worth the risk. Would you be willing to risk that much money for a racehorse?

Hi Tonster,

I guess it depends on your passion. Obviously money is not a factor to the buyer. If i had that kind of money and with a passion for horses....i would do it too.

Hmmmm.....i wonder if horses like livin on a tropical island.....thats where i would be with bucks deluxe!!

A while back he also purchased an Arabian Stallion, somewhere around 17 mil

In his country his horses are treated like royalty..
Those horses have it made, have everything..
I saw a video on his horses.. couldn't beleive it
(also camels are like royalty as well and can cost millions)

Arabian Stallions are the absolute most beautiful horses
i've ever seen..

I want an Arabian Stallion  Cry
Tony will you buy one for me?  Grin

I read the article about the Shiek buying The Arabian Stallion..he paid 16.8 million.

The most ever paid for a racehorse was 15 million...also a yearling.

Some Japan business men bought a horse named "The Green Monkey".

He only raced a few times in his career before getting hurt and only made a few thousand $$$. Now that was not a good investment.
