Whats the best poker hands to have? If you ask Andrew Trapp, a priest from South Carolina, he would say……it’s God’s hands.

The priest wins $100,000 on TV’s game show Million Challenge on the Fox network. There were 10,000 contestants that were entered online for the challenge. Father Trapp beat David Negreanu in the final hand!

The final hand that cinched it: Trapp had a J-8 against Negreanu’s 5-6 preflop. The flop 8-4-2 gave Trap top pair and Negreanu a double gutshot straight draw. Negreanu bet 2,000, after much contemplation Trapp shoves in $19,000. Negreanu makes the call…after seeing Trapp’s hand he says “oops”!!!  Negreanu needing a 3 or a 7, watched as the turn a jack and a deuce at the river. Giving the $100,000 match to Trapp.

What will he do with his winnings? What any good priest would do……..donate it to his church’s new building fund.

Trapp has a shot of winning the one million challenge which will air in December.

Do you think it's wrong for a priest to gamble?

Hey Lips,

No I wouldn't think its wrong for a priest to gamble.  At the end of the day, his church has benefited so there can't be much wrong in that.

I doubt his churchgoers will think much of it though.  It is pretty unusual (or is it?).  Are there any stats on the number of gambling priests in the world lol.

Nice story.

Well Lips, as I "Have" been on a Christian message board, this question has come up.

The sin is called "Covetness" thus if you gamble to win "More" then what you have, yes it can be called a sin. (Wanting what others have is the basis)

HOWEVER!!! In this guys case, if he donated everything to the building fund (Those types always impress me) then his intent was to benefit the church and his calling.

So, I think God would give a "pass" on this.

Hey Dan,

I love your analogy............and you are absolutely right!!! Seriously who is God going to let win, us or the man of the cloth. I don't think we have a prayer!!!

........and to think some were surprised he won! You just made it all crystal clear!!

Great post......you gave me my morning chuckle!!
