Hi,

Last night I was tired of playing slots.  Thought I'd sign up at a new poker site as I unstalled the last one I played at.  That didn't work out as all the sites I went to seemed to be the same one I had just left, just under different names. lol.

So I googled online poker scams and read a lot about what people think.  It all made sense to me as I remembered back to the many, many hands I lost to someone who stayed or went all in with a 2,3 off suit, for example, and pulls the hand out on the river.  This happened way too many times to me and I have read here how it happens to many others here as well.

Am wondering what your thoughts are on this?  I think I will give up playing online poker.

playing online has a variety of differences vs playing in land-based poker room or even at home. Without going into the poker cheating software, colluding, and the out-right corrupted sites - the way the poker application operates is and will be different. Obviously shuffling of the cards, it's done by a mathematical formula geared to randomize or imitate a real deck of cards being shuffled - however it will never be the same - unless...(idea) that had a real deck of cards shuffled and then scanned into the system in the deck's exact ordered - but i can just imagine all the hang ups and outrageous costs to even operate such a mechanism. Another factor, is the style of game play - players are going to call more often than not playing online - although it may be real money - the mind tends to perceive or rationalize it as virtual money - where the money doesn't hold it's actual value. Players will call cards that would normally have been folded were they playing in a land-based poker room. another factor, the increase of all-ins and the hands that trigger them...again..all-ins play more online with lesser hands than one would normally play land-based. just like you, and along with many others i really struggled at first and i admit went on tilt quite a few times...fortunately...i found someone who has made a living playing online...and with his help, tips and mentoring...i'm now enjoying online play. i still have lots to learn and would still deem myself a fish out there but slowly getting better.
i hear your frustrations but i can only give you two options that will help you win or save u some money...

1) do like u said and quit altogether.

or

2) accept that it will be different, therefore don't waste your energy comparing or applying land-based habits/experiences to an online game. rather learn to adjust and adapt - be ready and willing to learn a new game called "online poker".

whichever you decide I wish you the best of luck!

Hiya Med,

Its scary to know that peeps are using these programs and they work! I didn't realize that it was even happening til Blue mentioned it in one of her threads.

Sooooo many times i would see certain peeps consistently win...and for the life of me i could never figure out how. Especially when the hands they held were the worst hands imagineable.

So to answer your question i dint think its legit..........and its a shame cuz i love online poker!

I don't believe all sites are corrupt - if they were, online poker would quickly see and end. it's just a matter of filtering them out as its the reputable sites that has kept the industry alive..it's just a matter now of finding them. And you have an amazing tool to do that right here at in the forum. I'll be honest and tell you I have not spent much time, if any at all, in the poker forum here..but if it is anything like it is here at LCB..find a reputable poker site shouldnt be a problem.

I have to say, while i often think there is something odd going on at alot of sites i play-- In the end though i seem to always end up in front, and i am definitively not good enough to still win against cheating players.

I see a bit of colluding, and chip dumping going on. But i don't really think it makes much difference. When i start dropping some serious money, i might change my opinion, but for now i would say the're most probably not cheating and if they are its probably on the high stakes tables anyway.
