Morning Gang: Firearm deer season here in Michigan starts November 15th. Now I do know some hunters and they look forward to this more than any other time of year. Men and even some women.
How do you feel about hunting? Is it a necessary thing to keep population down in deer herds or is it just a cruel sport that should be outlawed?
The hunters I know I feel are responsible. They follow the laws, only shoot what is allowed, and eat every bit of any deer taken.
Are you a hunter? Do you know any hunters? What is your opinion on "Hunting" season? Is it a necessary evil, or just a trophy sport? PMM

Hunting for food is fine. If that is coupled with sport, I am okay with it. For people to hunt just to get their jollies out of shooting a living animal....well, that is a bit dark for me.

I kind of agree about that "shooting an animal for jollies" would also make me avoid that person.
I used to read Guns and ammo and loved to read the articles, but many times they'd also have pics of prize trophies shot during hunting.
I tend to dislike the "Trophy" hunters as they are only for the trophy, but indeed, the animal population needs to be trimmed. The problem is also, we're moving INTO their areas and so, they want food also. Of course, right now it's coyotes which are the biggest threat, but deer will possibly began to become more noticable in your neighborhood.

I don't like it much, as I feel sorry for the poor things just sitting there minding their own business......then......BAHM!!! wow nan..that's some nice shots you have there. to answer pam's question..i have been living with and around hunters for years, so it doesn't phase me, as long as they are the kind of hunters that i know...that is the ones that go hunting for sport and for food. i have know these guys since i was a little kid, they go with a bow and arrow, and a gun, and eat EVERYTHING they shoot. i have tried quite a bit of their trophies. they have giant hunter suppers, with stews and black bear steaks, wild boar meat, venison, moose meat, quail, etc, etc, etc. they even had me eat frogs legs once yuk...who says it taste like chicken maybe it does, but you know what it LOOKS like? A FROG! i think as long as what is killed is eaten it is ok. why not. most of us eat meat, don't we? someone has to kill it.

I live in a wooded area and I have a family of deer that come into my yard everynight and I am very attached to them. I love watching them and they really don't bother anything. On the other hand I also have a pack of wild hogs that are destroying my property. Over the past year they have really over populated and have become a big problem for myself and my neighbors. If we call animal control they tell us it is our problem and to do whatever is necessary to take care of the problem. They have destroyed my back yard 3 times within 5 months and it has cost me a nice sum of money to repair the damage. So in this case I am for hunting, as the population grows and there is not enough food for them they become a menace.

It's all a matter of balance...
The deer were getting over populated in a town over here, and many people were getting Lyme disease, they were causing problems, so they wanted hunters to come down on the refuge where they were really prevalent, and get rid of them...down to a normal range.

I feel so sorry for them! Poor animals! Once I've seen how people kill and carve a lamb...I should say it's not one of those scenes that I'd like to keep in my memory!! But generally I'm for hunting. The legal one! So I agree nal, we all eat meat...it's evident that someone kill it before we get a delicious dish! lol

If people hadn't destroyed the natural order of animals, there would be no overpopulation. The wolves have nearly all been wiped out and they are still killing them. GOD had everything in balance until people took over and decided what animals to destroy and which to leave for sport. Trophy hunters make me ill.

However, a hunter is also very good for other things. They go deeper in the bush. Shoot twice (The experienced ones) And they EAT what they shoot.

Hi Moon,
I agree with you wholeheartedly! I know man has to kill in order it eat and for means of survival......beyond that i don't believe in it at all.
In fact I'm amused by people who say "oh i could never eat a rabbit" they are too cute"! I can't help but come back at them and say......have you ever seen how cute a cow is? Or the way they are treated and slaughtered?
Why are certain animals "political" correct to eat and not others. They are all beautiful creatures. I do eat meat and I'm not gonna deny it. But i must admit in the back of my mind i keep saying I'm gonna go vegetarian because i feel so guilty.
I love seafood and could live on that......but then i think about those poor fishes in the sea being snared by a hook!!
Maybe i will just live on candy bars and chocolate cake!!!!

i alway feel bad for those poor fish... especially the ones the just catch and throw back. what the hells with that? i always love going fishing, but hated seeing those poor fish with hooks in them, then they rip them out.. its really gross. but like bass fishing, they just do it for fun, and they hook em, and then throw them back....gross. i would rather shoot a deer.
