Cover your computers!!!!
We had a lightning storm.. and i'll be the sister to the monkey's uncle if it didn't hit my computer and blow it to smitherines.. blew everything out threw the socket through the router, through the wiring, straight to the hard drive, blew out my video and sound card.. it was nuts.. i was just sitting here, thankfully i wasn't on my pc.. but i hear this loud BOOM.. saw some smoke, i thought i was protected having a surger but that didn't make not one bit a difference.. the only thing that it didn't get was my monitor.. wow is all i can say.. when they say turn off pc's during lightning storms my strongest advice is DO IT!! lol..
Anyone ever have strange things happen during lightning or thunder storms?

Whoa imagin... just thinking about that gives me the jumpin' heebie jeebies... I've had the lightning close enough to stand every hair on me straight up! That feels pretty weird. My friend got hit by lightning and survived, but she had a solid white stripe in her hair ever after that...

My dogs would just lay about during thunderstorms...But light off some fireworks and they'd be under the bed!
And yes imagine, it is ALWAYS a good idea to unplug computers and other appliances during such storms...The bummer is sliding them out to unplug, then sliding them out again to replug!

This happened to a friend of mine, the exact same thing. His luck was that he was insured so he was able to replace all the damaged goods with the insurance company's money.

That sounds really scary Imagin. Glad that you are ok.
Nothing like that has ever happened to me but I'm definitely switching off my pc during the next storm!

Imagin, thank goodness you weren't on your computer. Wow would that have been dangerous. I've been in some bad storms but luckily haven't had anything like that happen. Knock on wood! My ex got hit twice when he was younger,I wonder if that's why he was such a ass . LMAOOOO! Is it wrong to wish an ex would be hit by lightening?

It scared the hell outta me now i'm all saint.. til i forget about it this isn't the first time, there was another time when i lived in minnesota.. lightning struck hit a power line and the bolt kind of surged into the outlets and knocked out the power and where the pc's where plugged in it burnt out the ethernet cord on the router, but it wasn't realized til the electricity was back on.. that made no sound just a sizzle lol I was without a pc for a while, i could of replaced it part by part but i just went and bought a new one, they aren't as expensive as they used to be.. the repair shop had a new (slightly used) one, he gave me a good deal i paid 300 so it's all good, same brand.. and yes a lesson is learned.. yea, i did feel my hair on end very strongly, that was weird, i heard that when that happens it will strike in that vicinity.. i just thought i had a severe case of chills lol when it's cold and rainy outside, thats where i like to be on my pc, with some hot coffee, relaxed and enjoying, but for now on when lightning is striking i'm grabbing my covers and hiding under the bed.. lol

Wow, I've never heard of this happening either. Good thing you weren't on it. I guess this kind of thing could happen with TV's and whatnot also but no one I know ever unplugs these things when the lightening starts hitting. Something to think about ...

This past May one afternoon I was working on stocks and I thought a transformer on a telephone pole on my street blew up. I thought my electricity went out. I looked out the window and saw nothing. Then it hit me my tv was still on. As it turned out my computer blew up. No smoke, no flames, just kaboom. It seems a computer tower lasts me 18 months to 2 years before it dies. This time I bought a reconditioned one less than a year old and bought a 2 year extended warranty from a large computer store. The sales person lied to me, he told me I was covered for 3 years. It ended up 3 months for a reconditioned 1 and 2 years I paid for. I said screw it I havent had one last more than 2 years anyway.
