Oh this is an excellent song that Ray Charles did...

Hard Times (no one knows better than I)  Ray Charles....

My mother told me
Before she passed away
Said son when I'm gone
Don't forget to pray
'Cause there'll be hard times
Lord those hard times
Who knows better than I?

Well I soon found out
Just what she meant
When I had to pawn my clothes
Just to pay my rent
Talkin' 'bout hard times
Who knows better than I?

I had a woman
Who was always around
But when I lost my money
She put me down
Talkin' 'bout hard times
Yeah, yeah, who knows better than I?

Lord, one of these days
There'll be no sorrow
When I pass away
And no more hard times
Yeah, yeah, who knows better than I?
Wow the lyrics on that will tear ya up.....im about ready to have a cosmo and get all sentimental! My fav song from Ray Charles has to be "I Can't Stop Loving You".......thats a killer song

Very touching.... It's crazy that we know the "words" to songs, but when you actually read them it's sooo different.

Hi Soda,

I bet you could write a book with your life's experiences. The most important thing is you stayed true to you. Your belief in that particular church was not the path that felt right.

Everyone has there own beliefs in a higher power we call God. The key is to accept and respect it.

I'm not sure if i will make it to the pearly gates...maybe you can put in a good word for me!!!

 Another classic from Ray Charles.
Does anyone remember the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles? With Steve Martin and John Candy?
This song was playing while John Candy was driving the rental car flying down the road, smoking, and he was playing piano on the dash? I still laugh at that scene.
Great song guys, Look it up on lala

     MESS AROUND:

Ah, you can talk about the pit, barbecue
The band was jumpin', the people too
Ah, mess around
They doin' the mess around
They doin' the mess around,
Everybody doin' the mess around
Ah, everybody was juiced, you can, bet your soul
They did the boogie-woogie, with a sturdy roll
They mess around
They doin' the mess around
They doin' the mess around,
Everybody doin' the mess around
Now, ah, when I say stop don't you move a peg
When I say go, just ah, shake your leg
And do the mess around
I declare, do the mess around
Yeah do the mess around,
Everybody's doin' the mess around
Now let me have it there boy

(Piano Solo)

Now you got it boy

(Sax Solo)

(Yeah, ah, mess around, go on mess around)
(Mess around, boy)
Now this band's goin' to play from, 9 to 1
Everybody here's gonna have some fun
Doin' the mess around
Ah, doin' the mess around
They doin' the mess around,
Everybody doin' the mess around
Now you see that girl, with that, diamond ring
She knows how to, shake that thing
Mess around
I declare, she can mess around
Ah, mess around,
Everybody do the mess around

I recently just fell in love with this song

How Far is heaven - Los Lonely Boys
They are from texas, love the beat and the melody
and the lyrics just get to me...

Vamanos!

Save me from this prison
Lord, help me get away
'Cause only you can save me now
From this misery

Well I've been lost in my own place
And I'm getting' weary
How far is heaven?
And I know that I need to change
My ways of living
How far is heaven?
Lord, can you tell me?

I've been locked up way too long
In this crazy world
How far is heaven?
I just keep on prayin', Lord
I just keep on livin'
How far is heaven?
(Oh, Lord, can you tell me?)
How far is heaven?
(I just gotta know how far it is)
How far is heaven?
(Oh, Lord, can you tell me?)

Tu que estas en alto cielo, hechame tu bendicion.
[translated from Spanish: you that's in a higher place, send me down a blessing]

'Cause I know there's a better place
In this place I'm livin'
How far is heaven?
So I just got to show some faith
And just keep on givin'
How far is heaven?
(Oh, Lord can you tell me)
How far is heaven?
(I just gotta know how far it is)
How far is heaven?
(Oh, Lord, can you tell me?)
How far is heaven?
I just gotta know how far
I just wanna know how far

Sitting in a casino last night this song came on..
Now it's stuck in my head! I just loved the beat, had to look it up!
This is not up my alley for music, i just liked it Laugh out Loud!!!
Mainly i'm Soul and R & B
But simple songs with great lyrics always catch me!

Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let...fifty cents.
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but..two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
Old worn out suits and shoes,
I don't pay no union dues,
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

I know every engineer on every train
All of their children, and all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked
When no one's around.

I sing,
Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

King of the Road - Roger Miller  Grin

Wow..my dad use to play this one all the time when I was little, I haven't heard this song forever..now you have me singing it!  .... I ain't got no cigarettes...hehe..I know all the words by heart...you really brought me back!

One of the saddest songs I have ever heard.  I love this song, and  I just felt like sharing it:

JOAN BAEZ::

Jesse come home, there's a hole in the bed
Where we slept; now it's growing cold.
Jesse your face, in the place where we lay
By the hearth, all apart, it hangs on my heart

And I'm leaving the light on the stairs
No I'm not scared; I wait for you
Hey Jesse, it's lonely, come home.

Jesse the stairs in the halls, recalling
Your step; and I remember too.
All the pictures are shaded and fading in grey
And I still set a place on the table at noon

And I'm leaving the light on the stairs
No I'm not scared; I wait for you
Hey Jesse, it's lonely, come home.

Jesse the spread on the bed,
It's like when you left, I kept it for you.
All the blues and the greens have been recently cleaned
And are seemingly new; hey Jess, me and you.

We'll swallow the light on the stairs
I'll fix up my hair, we'll sleep unawares
Hey Jesse, it's lonely, come home

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
         Thank you imagin.ation.
Music has always had a big part of my heart.  I enjoy it, I sing it, play guitar (although not much anymore) and even wrote songs of my own a time ago.
Why I did not continue to pursue it in my life will always be a regret.
Glad you like my selections.  Have you ever listened to it? The song? Beautiful.
Look it up on lala.com if your interested in hearing it.  The first time I heard it, it gave me goosebumps.  I felt it that strongly.  It's about loss, and so many of us can relate to it.

I found this one years ago when I was cleaning out my Mothers closet (Looking for other stuff) and found a collection of records. Most were too damaged to listen to but one was in pristine shapre.

A collection of country and this one stood out:

Soundtrack: Thank You for Smoking
Title: Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette! (Tex Williams)

Now I'm a feller with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I've been told
The kind of guy that wouldn't even harm a flea
But if me and a certain character met
The guy that invented the cigarette
I'd murder that son-of-a-gun in the first degree

It ain't cuz I don't smoke myself
And I don't reckon that it'll harm your health
Smoked all my life and I ain't dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same
At a pettin' party or a poker game
Everything gotta stop while they have a cigarette

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

Now in a game of chance the other night
Old Dame Fortune was a-doin' me right
The kings and the queens just kept on comin' round

And I got a full and I bet 'em high
But my bluff didn't work on a certain guy
He just kept on raisin' and layin' that money down

Now he'd raise me and I'd raise him
I sweated blood, gotta sink or swim
He finally called and didn't even raise the bet

So I said "aces full Pops how 'bout you?"
He said "I'll tell you in a minute or two
But right now, I gotta have me a cigarette"

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hates to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

(Ah, smoke it! Hah! Yes! Yes! Yes!)

The other night I had a date
With the cutest little girl in the United States
A high-bred, uptown, fancy little dame

She loved me and it seemed to me
That things were 'bout like they oughta be
So hand in hand we strolled down lover's lane

She was oh so far from a cake of ice
And our smoochin' party was goin' nice
So help me cats I believe I'd be there yet

But I give her a kiss and a little squeeze
And she said, "ah, Marty, excuse me please
I just gotta have me another, cigarette"

And she said, smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette.
