Traditional Holiday Beverages??
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:49:14 AM »
There are certain things I just have to drink during the holidays and cold wintry months that I normally don't drink at other times of the year... So I am wondering what you drink that says, "Tis the season!"

My number one is EggNog... Heavy on the rum, light sprinkle of nutmeg and I am ready for whatever the holidays might bring.  <:-P <:-P <:-P

Blue, I was thinking advocaat might be Vodka so I had to go look it up and I found this description: Advocaat is a creamy yellow liqueur made from a rich blend of egg yolks, sugar, brandy and a touch of vanilla

Now that sounds yummy with nothing else added! I am trying to imagine it with the lemonade.................................... yep, still sounds yummy...  :-bd

And tenho, is that any old dark beer or is there a special seasonal blend you like?  ???

When you put the lemonade in, it bubbles up over the top of the glass and you have to slurp it to stop it going everywhere.  All those bubbles are delicious too.   Then there is the crunch and pop of that beautiful glacÚ cherry on top.  I think I want one now!

I've never had eggnog Katt - what is it exactly?

Well blue I am surprised you have never had any eggnog... it actually is very much like your advocaat. Here is a recipe for homemade eggnog, but honestly I buy it in the dairy section of the supermarket in a carton and then add my own rum...
Ingredients
12 jumbo egg yolks
1 pound granulated sugar
1 quart whole milk
1 quart heavy cream, lightly whipped
1 liter spiced rum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1.Beat yolks in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add sugar. Beat until mixture thickens. Stir in milk and rum. Pour into a large punch bowl and chill for 3-4 hours.
2.Fold in whip cream before serving. Garnish with freshly ground nutmeg.

There are variations of course and some use brandy or other alcohol... some even make a cooked version. I am going to have to go to the store talking about this.... I want some about now!

I was thinking yours would be fizzy with the lemonade in it, but the way you describe it, it sounds like a mad scientist drink and lots of fun.... wonder if it would work with eggnog in a similar manner?
