  • Ok this might seem petty but most of my check comes from tips. A few times I have paid out $20000+ jackpots to people who have tipped nothing and paid out little $1200 and received a couple hundred bucks.  I always overtip simply because I know what it means to me when I do.  I know in some countries it is considered rude but what are your thoughts on tipping?

  • $20000+ jackpots, wow,
    it is big for me

  • I always tip simply because I have lived off tips at some point, so I know how it is.

  • I always tip too - I feel it's rude not to.

  • I've tipped when I hit a jackpot and I would for sure if I was lucky enough to hit $20k. I think it all depends on the player's situation. Have they spent $2k and just won back $1,200? They may not be in a position to tip. It all depends. From the the player's perspective, at least in the US, it's not a requested service to be hand paid at $1,200 and it may be a bit of rebellion not to tip. It can also be a lack of knowledge as most may not realize that the person hand paying them relies on tips as part of their salary as servers do. I personally never knew that.

  • when u play at table games... u should tip at least a couple bux if ur leaving ahead.. and when u hit..definitely.. i mean big hit id prolly tip 10% ish.. couple hundred still even 5-10 bux.. but if i play ata table for a lil while.. unless i lose everything (pretty sure they dont expect it then wink i always throw a buck or two..  for a minute i though this thread was about like wait-staff..i was like ummm.. yea .100% of the time no matter what

  • Definetly tip, lets face it most of these workers don;t make a great deal of money and I truly believe in "spreading your bread upon the water and it will return tenfold "

  • I always tip, and I think that is a nice thing to do, but not only in casinos, but at restaurants or bars too. Workers here live of tips, but even if not, I think it's kind of rude not to tip at all.

  • yes ill tip but why cant the casinos afford to pay these people when they steal millions per day from customers playing slots, cause there's not many winners at my local landbased casino just about 10 per day is the average and people feed these machines like crazy even all there tax refunds go in the slots.

  • You're right, Luke. We are going to get busy soon at the casino I work at because people are going to spend their refunds there. We are also busy at the 1st of the month when everyone is spending their govt checks.  I remember I once gave a kid a $5 tip at a Sonic I went to and you would have thought it was a hundred I handed him.  Small price to  make his day as well as my own.

  • We have no casinos in Norway, but in restaurants and to taxi-drivers I give some tip.

  • I am a firm believer in tipping.

Not just at casinos, but for many services; taxi drivers, beauticians, food delivery, to name a few. I worked as a waitress a few years back. We were paid less than minimum wage because it was assumed we would make money in tips. I worked hard and was very good at my job, just like so many people in the service industry. I think it a GREAT thing to show appreciation! Especially if you have just won thousands of dollars.
  • I always tip no matter if a restaurant, bar, the pizza delivery or a casino. I've always told my kids......if you can't afford to leave a tip......eat at home!!! tongue

  • theres no tipping culture here in finland. the help all ready have a decent salary to begin with. sometimes somebody tips but they are considered crazy here.

  • A tip shouldn't be standard but earned. If the person at a table or in a restaurant is friendly, helpfull and entertaining then sure why not give him/her a tip. If this person just does the bare minimum of what is expected from him/her then I won't tip.
I have worked in a restaurant myself as well, tips are nice but should never be expected. Treat people the way you want to be treated and the tips will come on their own smiley. Obviously you can't win them all, the people who win $20.000+ and don't tip might just not be happy at all for some reason or are just plain selfish tongue

  • What I have learned is the "richer" people who play are the worst tippers.  Its the little guy who wins who likes to spread the wealth.  I am maybe barely middle class if not upper lower class (I like to use the term high class white trash)  I will tip regardless of service.  Everyone has a bad day now and then.  I don't take it personal.

  • i already answered my opinion at the game tables.. but as far as servers/waitstaff...you should really tip the minimum 15% regardless...if you have a prob with your service.. speak up.. talk to the server themselves.. if thats not an option or it goes nowhere.. tell the manager, but every1 else still gets paid while there at work, good or bad days.. if service is terrible and falls upon deaf ears to the server.. the manager may have to fire them.. but if ur terrible to customers.. kinda shouldnt be a server

  •               I always tip.  If it's a restaurant,  at least 17%,  frequently 20%  unless it's absolutely terrible  in which case  I would  have to say something.  And yes,  to the manager,  that's usually the best course of action.  I  understand  when you're having a crappy day,  I use to wait tables and it can be very stressful.  People don't always understand the shit you have to put up with in a  restaurant .

  • You'd be surprised at how a nice tip can change someone attitude. Maybe that little gesture was the high point of their day or maybe they've had countless rude people to serve to.  I witnessed this once with my husband he had ordered food and the eatery cashier at the casino was in a mood.  He went and cashed out his ticket and came back and put a 20 in her tip box.  She came out after that and talked with him quite awhile smiling.

  •                 You 'gotta pay it forward.  It all adds up,  you're right wmmeden.  that person goes on to have a better day and gives someone else a compliment or does someone a solid whether they deserve it or need one and then it spreads.  When I'd get a decent tip I was so much more pleasant to be around.....

  • I worked at a very popular Chinese restaurant in my hometown . Shanghai I was a hostess and cashier. My opinion is If your pleased with the service you received then tip whatever u feel is fair if your not pleased then don't. Its not a law here in California but it will b at some point . so exercise your right while u can .

  • I always leave a tip in restaurants and cafes. How much I tip depends on the amount of bill and if I'm satisfied with the service. If the staff is friendly, efficient and if I feel comfortable and pleasant at their place I always leave a bigger amount of tip. In my country leaving a tip is normal thing.  [|||] wink

  • I tip about 5% of winning. I mean i prefer only roullete so if i hit something i give back few euros. if i on loose streak then i'm only tiping if i get back my loses cheesy 95% do the same in my casino when i work not play cheesy

  • Ok today I had a good example of people who tip vs those who don't. My friend and I went to get tattoos. The guy spent over 2 hours on her. My turn came and it was 15 minutes top because I just wanted something simple.  When we paid him (his work was great and the price was half of what I expected) she didn't tip.  I thru in twice what I was going to tip because honestly I was embarrassed that she didn't after all he did for her.  I'm not trying to make her out as a bad guy and she probably thought nothing of it but after what she got I would have figured a few extra bucks would have been a nice thank you.

  • I tip if service is very good, often in restaurant or taxi, but reason why not often is that in Finland we normally dont tip.  kiss

  • I thought that was the custom thing to do in USA to tip. That is something the UK is very bad at

  • In Finland it has to be extremely good service if tip, normally we dont do that but nobody dont feel insulted if get extra money for tip  kiss

  • In Europe, we almost never tip. I hate tips anyway. My worst experience? Being forced to tip an intrusive waiter in a famous restaurant in Boston: North Market st, New Year's eve, expensive champagne & red wine dinner, the "big chill" seafood platter, 4 guests... Based on our bill, we had to give an incredible $100 tip to the waiter "just because it's the norm" Why?? Just for a fake smile, a few steps between the kitchen and the dining hall and a very average service... Even worse, in Montréal, Québec, a waiter in a pizzeria noticed our French accent and added the tip to our bill, just because "French customers never tip".  We knew tipping wasn't mandatory so we tried to discuss the matter further but we eventually gave up. This was clearly robbery to us.

  • In my country it is normal to tip. It must not be a large sum, but it is considered normal to tip some pretty, young girls in local casinos or betshops. I personally, almost always tip.
