Doc,
Maybe it's a bit premature, but i think he represents restoring peace and as our President he hopes to accomplish that.
Lets not forget when he was newly elected.........there was a sense of peace not only here but felt worldwide.
That alone is quite mission to accomplish.

Giving the Nobel prize for Peace to Obama was nothing more than a political decision ( unfortunately this is not a precedent )
My personal opinion is that ALL politicians have to be excluded from receiving ANY Nobel prizes.

Zuga,
I am not sure i agree with you on that one. Presidents are the ones that control wars and peace for that matter. If a president does not deserve it......who do you think does. I will agree that maybe it was too soon to give him the Noble Peace Prize. He has a lot on his plate.....only time will prove he had done good for our country and other countries throughout the world.
Noble Peace Prize recipient: shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.
p.s. we can agree to disagree!!!

I think this has caused others to sit up and take a look at how politics play in the world. It's quite obvious, that the Committe leans to the left. Plus, he was nominated only 2 weeks into his office. Take a look for instance at Gandhi, or Nobel Peace Prize winner Martin Luther King Jr. Both not only talked about fighting injustice with civil disobedience, but they put in the difficult and extremely dangerous work of actually organizing such movements. Consider Theodore Roosevelt, who won a Peace Prize for engaging in the tedious work of negotiating an end to the Russo-Japanese War. Woodrow Wilson won in 1919 for being the originator of the League of Nations. He tirelessly advocated for the U.S. to join the League to the point that his health totally collapsed. Jimmy Carter, who won in 2002, has worked for peace throughout his life, most notably bringing Sadat and Begin together for the Camp David Accords. Can anyone really claim that Barack Obama has fought for peace in a way that is comparable to the efforts of these people? This is not to say that Obama will never accomplish great feats in diplomacy, but the point is that he has not yet done so. As Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Lech Walesa said, "He has no contribution so far. He is only beginning to act." By the way, Gandhi never won the award. I personally feel, this was too sudden, unless they gave it for political Rhetoric. Then there's a pass
