OMG! That's sad but OMG! I ask just asked my husband what he would do if his coconuts were that big. He says, I'd get em looked at.  He said if he had to choose, he'd live like that rather than be castrated. |

amazing story and sad too, but wow i couldnt imagine being in that situation, i would have to try everything i could to try get the operation, there must be some way for the operation to go ahead, what about this new health care in the usa, isnt he covered to get it done now?

oh my goodness, wow is my response, in this day and age seems there is something they can do other then castrate, not to be insensitive but right now it's useless he actually has nothing to lose but a 100 pounds of scrotum, i don't even have to say what he would gain.. it's not just gonna go away.. hopefully a surgeon will come along and do it for study because of the rarity in this case.. i feel so badly for him i can't imagine living like that..

Okay in all seriousness, I feel bad for this guy but let's keep this in check. I've been in health care for a long time and the worst part about this is IT DIDN'T FREAKIN HAPPEN OVERNIGHT!!!. When you first notice something that shouldn't be there, see a doctor. Whether it be a bump, lump, mass, or stump. If it don't fit... you must have em look at it!
Okay, so much for my weak attempt at rhyming. Anyhow, we used to get patients over 300 pounds maybe a couple times a month or so in the early 90's and thought how unusual. Well, now people come in weighing over 400, 500lbs. several times a week. It's sickening in that it takes a long time to develop this and my point is don't let it get to that point. When you can't see your unit or your feet, I think that's God's way of tellin'
you "hey, lay off dem twinkies". Anyone concerned should have intervened. Okay, I'm done ranting now. I do hope he'll be okay.

As usual gunny you are concise and to the point! you so crack me up...
But seriously here.... don't ALL surgeries carry risks? Being in the prime of his life can't be a really wonderful thing with his current condition... And I may be dumb about this, but it is caused by a liquid buildup in his scrotum... could it not be drained? And finally, I would think that something this rare might be taken on by a research hospital or a teaching hospital?

In response to a couple of earlier posts, what this guy has is NOT a weight problem. It seems to me that looking at the pic of this guy would tell any reasonable person that, and I took offense at a couple of the callous remarks here. What he has is "scrotal lymphedema" - "Lymphedema is a notoriously debilitating progressive condition with no known cure. The unfortunate patient faces a lifelong struggle of medical, and sometimes surgical, treatment fraught with potentially lethal complications.
The underlying problem is lymphatic dysfunction, resulting in an abnormal accumulation of interstitial fluid containing high molecular weight proteins. This condition underscores the tremendous importance of a normally functioning lymphatic system, which returns proteins, lipids, and accompanying water from the interstitium to the venous circulation near the subclavian vein–internal jugular vein junction, bilaterally. The normal and abnormal flow of interstitial fluid through the lymphatic system are demonstrated below." This is actually really weird timing for me. My mother was just telling me earlier tonight about one of her cousins who died at 60 from lymphedima in her legs. Mom said her legs were so swollen sh couldn't walk and there was no cure or relief from it. |

It is a horrible condition lhasa and it is no laughing matter especially when it hits home. I think some members were just trying to make light of a sad situation and meant no disrespect.
Just as lymphedima is no laughing matter i don't think people who suffer from weight issues is funny either. I do know a pretty large person and the ridicule he takes on the streets is terrible. He is laughed at and sneered at and it makes me hopping mad. I mean what is so funny? Watching the person feel hurt and made to feel he doesn't fit into society?
Whether a person is large due to illness or over eating does not give another person the right to make them feel less then human.
It is the one thing in society that is still acceptable. We take special care to respect race, religion and mentally challenged etc. but little care to those who suffer from being over weight.
