Sometimes I wonder about our goverment!!!

I have to vent about this.As alot of you know my son has been battling a autoimmune diease for over 10 years now. The other day he received a call from his main doc in Chicago stating that they had received a call from Social Security informing them that he needed to be tested to see if he is fit enough to work!

For the last year he has been in and out of the hospital on average every month or two.His stays are for a week or two.He has gotten so much worse in the last 2 years that there have been times he has just wanted to give up. So can he get and hold a job....I think not. He is now worried he will not receive his benefits and medicare...more stress which brings on more outbreaks!!!

I'm so irratated I'd like to smack whoever is responsible!!

I just needed to get this off my chest!!! Thanks for listening....reading my rant!!

Im not sure how things work in US but if anything your son should get more benefits oppose to potentially being denied those he already has.

Oh, they do suck here at times, so sorry, Rosebud.  Zuga, they sometimes make people pay back the benefits they've already given out!!!

I am just starting on my SS disability claim, and it's tough.  Can take two years to get approved/denied. 

Besides that, I sent an email to the county indigent care's legal assistance lady, who has had the bond on my husband.  She now is claiming I threatened her.  She needs to get over herself, but let's hope the judge will be SANE and see I meant no threat to her.  here's what I said:

You really shouldn't believe everything your people on bond tell you without verifying with the people they have hurt.  Jake showed up here in July the minute his restraining order expired!  What did he tell *you* he was doing in July, August, and on up to now?

People could be killed because you didn't check your facts.  Don't you know that?  Take your job more seriously.

Rosebud, I'll keep you and my son in my prayers and am thinking positive thoughts.  Surely the doctors will satisfy the questions of the Social Security Administration.  So sorry you all have to deal with the extra stress from the government.  I don't know what is wrong with the people in charge here anymore.  It's crazy wrong.

This is such a disgrace Rosebud.  Your son doesn't need any more worries bless him.  I hope they don't take it away from him. 

I have to say that they are doing the same thing over here.  Soldiers with limbs blown off in Afghanistan are being denied payments too.

Makes me angry.

That is so sad Blue.They fight for their country and are denied.I just don't get it!!

I know people that were drug and alcohol addicts and received benefits!! REALLY..what is wrong with that picture.They used the money NOT to get help but to buy more of the drug of their choice.

We hope that Stephen won't have a problem but you're right he doesn't need the added stress.It will just put him in the hospital...again!!

Chilly,I hope everything works out for you!! I know it's hard to get disability,Stephen had to wait over 2 years and get a lawyer!! I'll keep you in my thoughts too!!

That is so wrong, they are putting people who deserve to be helped through all kinds of tests while I'm sure that there are plenty of people who tricked the system into helping them and are getting away with it. Anyway, best wishes to you and your son Rose.

I'm so sorry your son is going through this.  I know as his mother it is hard on you too.

All I can do is tell you my story and maybe it can help. 

28 years ago when my son was born i got what they believed to be post partum depression.  It continued and got worse and worse.  After five years I just couldnt work especially since i worked in the accounting field and it is a stressful job.  Eventually I collasped emotionally and physically.  I went to Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles which is the best in Los Angeles.  I left the hospital to homelessness and was homeless for many years.  Because I was homeless and unable to take care of my self,  I was approved the first time for SSDI (social security disability insurance).  Believe me that rarely happens but I was in bad shape.

I have always used Kaiser Insurance which you can buy into after having medicare for two years.  They have helped me tremendously.  Many people don't like Kaiser but I have found them to be there for me in difficult situations with Social Security.  They have defended me at my re-evaluations.  They keep very good records.  They have used every known meds in the book.  Only one works for me.  Every time a new med came out they would try it.  Twelve years later Effexor came out and it worked...Yippee.  It was like a miracle I was back to my normal self..  Apparently I have a true chemical imbalance.  My meds were costing Kaiser over a $1,000 a month but with help thru a California program my co-pays were only $10.  They never denied me my meds.  After six years they stopped working and misery again.  I used something else but it was worthless.  Five years passed and I asked my Psychiatrist if we could we retry effexor....a miracle again and I am normal.  I am so grateful.  Luckily they have come out with Pristiq which is similar but metabilizes differently but I am hopeful when Prozac stops working we will use that.  Luckily Kaiser will use a med that is not on the formulary if your doctor says it is necessary

I'm explaining all this so you can see how Kaiser has helped me with no regard to their cost.  I'm not sure what insurance you have and many times that is where the problem lies.

That's an awful situation Rosebud; injustice seems to be everywhere around us, it's really sad. I'm hopeful that everything will work out for your son and you at the end.

Ahh it absolutely makes no sense. I will never understand it. The gov over spends and we have to pay the piper with all these cut backs to people who really need it. I hope it all works out for your son Rose and Looney i know you have been through hell and back and you offer some wonderful advice.

I did click on the link you provider but it's for medicare and my son has that already.He was declared 100% disabled about 6 years ago and he is worried that he will lose his disability pay and medicare.Hopefully his doc who is a Behcet's specialist at Rush hospital in Chicago will be able to convince them (social security) that there is no way he can work.It's hard for him to even lead a somewhat normal life when he is constantly in the hospital.

Our fingers are crossed and we have faith all will work out.

Sorry your feelings are hurt.  But, I am glad the Government asked about his fitness to work.  So many dead-beats abuse the system.  And, he could at least sell light bulbs or stuff envelopes.  I am sure he could do something to earn a wage.

Rosebud.....no need to show records, and that is not advisable to do on line anyway.  Maybe your son is completely immobile and cannot work.  However, it is still a fair question for the government to ask.  I am one of the Americans who believe if he can work one hour a day, he should do so. 

It's frustrating how they never seem to catch those who sponge off the government but are always quite keen on giving honest people a hard time.
