I gotta say I have told a white lie in the past. Only to save someones feelings. Like old people. Who can tell them that the clothes they are wearing are from the 20's and they look ridicoulous, when they think they are dressed to the T.  I for one cannot do that to someone, ecspecially in that situation.

How about when teenagers constantly want money? Do you tell them the truth, that you just stopped at the ATM on the way home, and you do in fact have money in your purse/wallet? Or do you fib, and say, "I'm sorry, but I don't  have any cash to give you right now to blow.

How about when a small child loses a pet, and asks Mom or Dad if they will see them again? Now we have our beliefs, but no one really knows what Heaven is like. DO you tell the truth and say "You may not see them again." Or fib just a tad and say whole heartedly, "YES" even though we dont know for sure.

Just some scenerios to throw out there.

                                                                   PMM

If I don't know for sure I'll say "YES"...if there's a chance that this or that will happen or won't happen, we should believe in better! And I don't consider it as a lie! These are doubts, I think so...But if I'm convinced in something I'll say the truth! Even painful...Early or later it'll be found out anyway...

You hear someone breaking into your house...instinctively you tell your kid to go hide behind the pile of toilet paper in the cabinet under the bathroom's sink as you grab a weapon to confront the intruder. Unfortunately the intruder was  aware of your whereabouts and grabs you from behind...and asks "Is there anyone else home?"...and you reply.."yes my kid is and you can find him hiding under the sink in the bathroom." hmmm..is the truth really always good or the better way?

Nice story, soda!  Grin  Tongue  Grin Tongue Grin Tongue
In the previous post I said that everybody lies and I'm not an exception! Wink I just hate lie and try to avoid it...but I won't argue that in life there can be different situations...So if the life of my close people depends on my lie, I do it! lol

let's see if this makes sense about the truth and lies...most people are brought up and taught that speaking the truth is good and lying is bad. but is it really? speaking the truth and lying is part of the do's and don'ts . so much emphasis is focused on teaching kids to do and/or don't do. meanwhile the emphasis should be on building good character. unfortunately in this fast paced world we no longer have the time to build and therefore resort to enforcing the do's and don'ts which may require very little time and effort. It's not hard to tell a kid "don't do that or don't do this" or "you should do this or do that". Shallow teaching which can lead a child to have conflicting emotions or thoughts. The child's heart might have felt it was right to lie yet is made to feel guilty as lying has been emphasized as bad..or vice-versa where the child is riddled with guilt for speaking the truth because the childs heart felt it was wrong yet did it because it was the "good" or "right" thing to do.

i believe the truth could be just as evil as lying is evil. and lying can just be as good as the truth is good. the factor that determines this comes from the heart - whether it was a lie or not - if it came with good intentions from out of the goodness of the heart -it's good. And if from the heart it came with evil intentions and wickedness whether it be the truth or not - it's evil.
