One Mans Hyde is another Mans Salvation

The monster awoke this morning. broke loose from the cage
and is wandering the streets of some anonymous small town.

And I will not chase him down again.
He and I and the world are all better when he is not knocked out, stowed away,
forgotten in some dark corner of my Id left to languish in some gray dream.

You cannot starve, what does not survive, on bread alone.

He greeted me in the mirror, wild haired
monstrously bushy eyebrows, deep set unrelenting eyes,
the face of someone who might appear familiar
if anyone has been paying any attention
at all. Have you been paying attention? At all?

You've all gone and done it, he says. Waited one day too many and now, and now
and now...

It's the anticipation that makes him pause because he knows, lumbering the street,
looking oddly like a baboon on the hunt,he will attract stares, and gasps,
and he will, undoubtedly, offend some old farmer's wife or another
who does not understand there is more
to man than the collected hours he works
and whittles and the little bit he dies each and every day. And some farmer
or another will be offended, too because they will never know the freedom
of walking through the world without carrying the fear
that someone, somewhere has found the secret to happiness
without waiting on god, on grace,or on some nicely written obituary
outlining the predetermined brevity of his long laborious days.

It's the anticipation that draws him out and into the street, coming soon
to a store front, coffee shop, bar, or street corner near you.
He carries doom in one pocket, salvation in another
and you will not know which he might be inclined to share
until you look him in the eye and show him the the glimmering seat
of your soul, share the warmth of your heart
and accept without question..even though you might find his grin
just a tad disconcerting.

Live life not as a one way street, doom or salvation separated by blind determination.. stop and smell the roses... aaah freedom

When i read this it reminds me to always take a moment out of life to just smile, breathe, compliment, pray, and share.. a full pocket can be a heavy load.

All i can say to that imagin is Amen! I hear ya loud and clear. We need to learn how to kick back a bit more especially the US. We are workaholics and a slave to our debts and the material world.

We need more vacation time like some of the European countries offer and learn to appreciate the simple things in life like watching the grass grow for a change instead of our bank accounts.

We are a very fast paced culture in comparison to other regions and i know for myself i have been told more than once to slow down and just.............enjoy.

When i was traveling over seas i met a very dear friend from Europe and we sat at an outside cafe every now and then and i was like hyped up on coke ready to rumble and go see this that and the other. All the while he sat there sipping a beer or cappuccino laid back as could be.

I would get so mad like c'mon lets go we got things to do! All the while i have to admit i appreciated that laid back approach and in many ways envied it. It made me look at myself a bit closer and a lesson was to be learned from it.

He on the other hand was like slowwwwwwwwwwwww down girl and certainly didn't envy my fast paced lifestyle!

Lips, i loved what you said, you know damn right huh.. slowing down for us is more difficult then some can imagine when we've spent most of our lives hyped and ready, sometimes i feel animated, when i've finally found a moment to relax, suddenly i've got ants in the pants.. im up pacing the kitchen going to cabinet like im looking for something, (i thought about getting a glass of water earlier and im just now taking the time to do it, but by that time i forgot what i need to get from the cabinet, so i'm asking  myself.. why am i looking in here..) my body races just as much as my mind does, but not at the same time and level lol..

It takes getting to that zombie state, i'll begin to wind down when i've hadn't had enough sleep for days, then i pass out, wake up and start it all over again. I love life and all it's offerings, but this fast paced style we live can barely enjoy it, if we do we have to do it quick!

Need a long vacation somewhere far away, i'd love to just lay on a beach under the warm sun or just explore some museums.. gosh just to sit at an outside cafe, have breakfast and sip a cappuccino, i'd appreciate and envy that too!
