I'm just a tad peeved right now. I got a message form Chase Bank. Now, normally I just chuck it into the trash bin, but for the heck of it, I opened it.

I will state, I have no overdraft protection. Which means, if I should possibly go over the limit, I would have the purchased refused and so, NOT encounter a dreaded overdraft fee.

Well, I guess alot of people have thought the same way. Now CHase Bank is saying that if I want to keep the account, I will (As of Fe 8th, 2011) have to pay $10 a month to do so.

I just looked in my gift card drawer and see 15 gift cards bought from Chase. That's $52.50 in FEES for buying them. Never mind I was told that the free checking would always be "Free" (Yeah right) but this wonderful message comes right now what with all the holidays approaching.

Well, Chase gets a lump of coal this year and everyone afterward. I'll be looking for a new bank to deal with....GRRRRRRRRRR Angry Angry Angry

Your bank doesn't charge you if they send the check back?  LUCKY YOU!  Mine charges $29.  Last month I was a few cents short of the funds for a check due to Jake's dumbutt promises to put money in there.  Bank charged $29, then the stupid grocery store charged $30!  That's a WHOLE LOT of money for me.  It took me 2 weeks to get the money to pay the check back at the grocery store.  I don't have OD protection either.

I'm kinda stuck with my bank for the moment.  But you might check into a credit union instead.  I hear they are more user-friendly.

Gene...

I also have two checking accounts from Chase and both are covered by overdraft protection for FREE...and I too have received "the letter" about the new feature starts from Feb.2011 but when I asked(called) them if it will cost me anything and they stated definitely NO so call or go in and ask to be sure... Wink

P.S. The only time I pay the fee was to upgrade all my cards which cost me $29 for only one and the rest were free to combine the points...but I received over $190 so far so it was not too bad.

my oh my, I think you know how I felt over the last couple weeks about the charge back I had.  I was short like over a dollar from $25 + $2.50 echeck fee deposit with Tropica, my bank charged me 2 x $34.  My bank became negative and they began to charge other transactions I had like buy gas, cigarette,.... $34 fee each transaction.  It was like snow effect, my bank went up to $400 plus in negative, but I also lost more than that bc all my winning from rivals were voided.
geneco,
Please enroll in the overdraft protection plan if you can.  Dont want you to be like the next taaadaaa, lol.

OK, maybe I should have clarified a few things.

I can avoid the "Fee" if I have
1. $1,500 min in checking acocunt (Daily basis)
2. 1 DD of $500 or more per month. (2 or more of DD's of less then $500 don't count) I get a weekly of $334 per week.
3. Min $5,000 in more then one account (Daily basis)
4. Pay $25 (Or more) in monthly account fees (Not including the $10 monthly)

if I should ever bounce a check, I sure would get charged, that's why I use no checks, only debiting (automatic) from my account for other things.

But I don't need the OD protection as i do watch my account and don't risk gambling or major purchases when I may exceed my balances.

That's why I am a bit ticked about this whole thing..Yes, I will be looking at other banks...Bummer is I can only look or deal with them on weekends as I have to use the bus (For now) to get around and that's usually weekends as I get off at 5pm....

Ever been in military or have military in family?  I don't have to have any minimum, or DD or anything to get my free checking with ATM.  People who have money (unlike me...my balance has been at around $3.00 for around 3 weeks now) get to deposit by sending a pic through their mobile phone.  I try hard not to use checks but when Jake is out of smokes he kinda forces them out of me in the guise of getting groceries and he'll put the money in the bank.  Sometimes that works out, sometimes it doesn't.  I still say you are a lucky guy Gene!  I could never follow those rules if I had money.  I'd screw up something and be eating fees for days.
