Hiya Guys and Dolls,

Just heard on the radio a crazy stunt a kid pulled on his mom..........

It happened in the Chicago area where Dorian Ford, a 19 year old boy faked a kidnapping and asked for a $1,000 ransom. According to Ford he wasn't after any money, he did it to see if his mom really loved him and staged the whole event to see if she would pay it.

He was later arrested and charged for felony and disorderly conduct. He had a court hearing but his mother didn't attend.

What do you make of all this? If you were his mom would you be mad or would you feel some type of guilt that your son doubted your love and took it this far?

I guess the kid got his answer...That's pretty sad and his Mother is probably embaressed.

I'd suggest some counseling for him....

It seems that the reason he went this far in a desparate cry for help and his mother's love is clear in the fact that she did not show up to support her son at court.

Mad at him or not, if she was the loving mother he wanted to find by this she would recognize his need, and be there for him, but she did not.

Thumbs down to mom!  Thumbs Down

I agree kattboots.

But many parents make their children beg for love.  It's simply sad.

It's a very sad situation indeed.  I feel for the kid and he must have felt so unloved to take such drastic steps.  She should definitely have gone to the court for the hearing.

If I was his mother, I would feel very sad that my son felt so unloved.

Yes, and showing love to your own kid should be the easiest "job" in the world.

I don't mean to trivialize things, but love should be one constant in any family. So, even if it doesn't seems so, kids would know to distinguish good from bad.

Maybe he wanted the cash. Maybe his mother is very loving and knew darn well that he wanted the money. That said, I still think I would still be in court for my kid so I tend to think that she's probably not mother of the year. If it were me and I knew that I wasn't giving my child what he needed I would feel extremely guilty but clearly this woman is selfish.

I'm also a bit suspicious about his reasons for doing this. He's 19, he's not a kid anymore, so he should know better. At 19 you're well aware that talking to someone may solve much more than a foolish move like this one. So one part of me believes that he did it for the money. But then again, perhaps he was truly desperate to get her attention, which he obviously didn't manage to do, as she didn't appear in court (which EVERY mother should if she cared for her child). But who knows the background of the story? Only the two of them. So it's a bit tricky to speculate from this point of view, and based on an article/report that clearly takes the young man's side.  Lips Sealed

I wouldn't blame the mother, at least not before knowing more details about the whole story. What I can say is that what this youngster did was stupid. And I agree with CatFace, you're not a kid at 19.

I agree with you CatFace and Johnny Karp, he is not a kid anymore, but... this is what he did and the reason is a bad parenting.

Here is the thing i was thinking about though......

The mother is under a lot of scrutiny for not appearing in court. But does that mean she does not care or love her son? Imagine thinking your child was kidnapped, the agony and stress that had to cause. In a way she had every right to be ticked off after pulling such a stunt.

This is an extreme way to seek attention and test your mothers love. Ya'll are right he is not a kid but a mother's kid who should be ashamed of himself for doing what he did.

He clearly has mental issues and i have to wonder if there was some ulterior motives. In some ways it appears he was out to cause her great pain and after he realized what he had done played the sympathy card.

I think i have to side with the mom in this case and i am not too sure i would go to court either if i was in her shoes.....then again it's her child we are talking about.
