Yes you can use word pad, paint, photoshop etc.
From there you can directly upload your screenshots from your desktop to your forum post using the attachment option, or in case you want to paste the image url then such image would have to be hosted at one of the free image hosting services ( like imageshark, photobucket etc )

I think the easiest option to make a screenshot is by using program called ScreenShooter.
It's a small application that can be downloaded for free - http://screenshooter.net/. Once you install it, it's enough to just press F9, select area which you want to take a screenshot of and here you are you will get link to your screenshot, no need to upload it anywhere, can't be done faster.
Hope I could help. -

Once you get a link to your picture, open it in your browser. Right click it and select "copy image URL" for chrome. Then to add picture to your post just press this icon:
(it will add "[ img] [ /img] to your message) between those [ img] paste URL of image that you have just copied and here you are
it will look like this

As a couple of people have mentioned "snipping tool" is the way to go and has been included with all versions of windows for years now!
Just, click start -> run -> type "snippingtool"
Or, on windows 8, click the 'down' arrow on the start screen, move to the right to 'windows accessories', and choose snipping tool.
That allows you to draw a box around whatever you want to share with us here at LCB and save it to a file without all the messing around with print-screen paint etc etc .... save it in the JPG format.
Hope this helps somebody -

Also, it has great tool for highlighting important stuff on the picture and it is very quick and effective. -

I recommend to use pixlr grabber firefox/chrome extension. I'm not sure if that addon is still alive but if so its very simple to use. You can grab entire area or select an area to share it immediately, copy it to clipboard for further editing or for saving it. And it has also other benefits and its free to use.

How about a screenshot contest? Like I saw on another forum a contest that whomever posts a screenshot of the largest online casino win, wins the contest! I thought that sounded pretty cool so how about doing it here for one of your monthly contests? Just a suggestion. Happy winning everyone!

Okay, I've been looking at the posts and I'm still not sure what the easiest way to take a screenie is. This is embarassing, I looked at my profile and I have been on LCB for 6 1/2 years and still am not sure what the best/easisest method to use. I don't want to leave anything on the desktop or anything obvious. Could anyone make a suggestion please. I know the software is always changing but if I can figure this out......ya'll are going to see some interesting pics I promise.

I use (Windows 7) this one: SnippingTool
Very small and simple. Do not need any other programs.
See here:

Wow! that does look easy. Thanks you guys, I'm so embarassed. Like I said earlier, I've been a forum member for 6 1/2 years.....hard to believe I've never actually posted a screenie. That's going to change nowish..... I have to go to work now but I am going to try this out as soon as I get back. Thanks Zuga, Aelen.

Thanks Zuga, i'm still struggling with this screenie thing. I tried the Snipping tool in Windows 7 and then I don't know what to do with it exactly. I mean I can easily capture the image but then don't know how to upload it . Sorry Aelen, I really appreciate your efforts. I don't know which would be easier, the snipping tool or an outside program. I'm really smarter than this in real life I promise.....

Bongo after you see your screen shot in paints you have to save it. in the top left hand corner you will see a arrow pointing down click on it , scroll down to " save as " than more options will appear than click on "JPEG picture" than another pop up will appear asking for a title name . after you put in your title name , look at the address bar and you can choose where to save file. ( libraries or desktop or where ever you want to .by clicking on it or you can just leave it for libraries. I save all my file mostly to desktop . I find it easier.
if your wanting to upload to site all you do is it the reply button or new , than scroll down to bottom and look for attachments , click that , than click browse and it will look for all your saved files and than click your screen shot file . I hope this helps you good luck -

Thanks for this information. The technology changes so fast for this new generation that us old timers have a hard time keeping up to date. I know of one casino that asks for screenshots in some of their tournaments and I'm sure the process for posting is similar. Any hints and tips are appreciated when you get past 40.
Thanks -
