This is so sad,  how did the captain run this aground? This has been all over the news, so tragic.  It seems now the Captain jumped ship before alot of passengers did and is being charged with manslaughter.

Here is a news article if you have not read or seen about this.

It was shocking indeed, I thought that such things were not possible any more due to the advances in navigation and electronics. The captain denied having abandoned the ship but it seems that several people have seen him running away in a small boat while everybody else was stuck.

A terrible tragedy indeed. Must have been horrific for everyone involved.

The captain sounds like a mouse rather than a man.

That captain is a mouse and a big old liar... people saw him on the dock while the evacuation was taking place... he just has one excuse after another the coward.

All i can say is WTF ! How on earth does a captain of a cruise ship with hundreds of peoples lives under his collar, make the decision to "get closer to the shore so the people on land can see the cruisers waving" ? Just this utter stupidy, ignorance, unprofessionalism and idiocy alone without the ship even toppling, should be repremanded severly, he needs to be stripped of every single stripe he has then, castrated, tarred, feathered and placed on public display.. he was not even a couple hundred feet from the shore. The horrific events to why this happened, the disgust in this captians actions, and the shear sadness in this tragedy was absolutely needless.

It is really terrible. Neighbours from me have been on this ship. They are married 25 years, so they make this cruise to celebrate the silver marriage.Thank god they are back and well, but the shock is great.

In more news, it has been learned the Captain was ordered to go back on board the ship to help with locating missing passengers. He refused several times and he's now in custody where he faces 12 years in prison.

I hope they make him do all 12, while he may not have saved a life by staying, by leaving he gave all Captains a black eye.

The conversation between the captain and his superior ashore were made public, I listened to part of it last night on TV and it was quite dramatic, that so-called captain seemed a moron and a coward from what I heard in those few minutes.

Now that i have more details i'm even more mad, he's gone over the capacity and comprehesion of stupid, they dubbed him "Captain Coward".

I feel so badly for those passengers, they never saw it coming, putting their trust into this captain, only to end in such a huge tragedy, you can't even call it an accident or a mistake.. it's so sad all the way around.

It's a scary thought to know our lives are in the hands of the captain at the helm.

I wonder if this will have an affect on future cruises where people will now become fearful.

@lips,  it seems it is starting to effect bookings of cruises.

The latest I just heard about the "captain" on the news, he "tripped" and fell off the boat right onto a life raft.  That's just too much.

I read the transcript of that conversation and seeing the Coastguard ordering him back on the ship along with his 2nd in command who was also on the lifeboat, just shows what total cowards both of them are.
