  • OMG- Just looking at the news now.  USA is on alert for the tsunami.

Biggest every recorded earthquake.  This is dreadful.

  • Yes,it looks like everything in the Pacific is in the wake of the tsunami..Hawaii included..sirens going off right now there.

  • Japan also has a problem with the Nuclear Power station.  They've managed to shut it down as a safety measure but they are having problems keeping it cool - they can't pump the water in to act as a coolant because of electricity problems.

It looks as though the tsunami will hit the east coast of America in 9-12 hours from when the earthquake happened.

  • I sure don't believe a Deity causes, or even triggers, this sort of disaster.  Though, I think horrible events like this are a call to repent; meaning, turn to God.  We are remined on the fragilness of life and our own mortality.  Our only true recourse?  Turn to God.

Cough cough....anyway ......  I believe it is mother nature fighting back.

  • I saw a video on it and it was horrible. The flood waters literally took away houses and cars like they were monopoly pieces.

Those poor people so very sad  :'(

I hope it does not hit Hawaii.  :'(
  • When I lived in Hawaii, there was a prediction of the hugest tidal wave to hit.  So many people headed to the mountains, my family stayed home. Thankfully... nothing happened.

Friends of ours are due to leave for Hawaii in 2 days for Spring Break vacation.  Don't know if I would make that trip.

I haven't seen much of the news but if it's anything like the last tsunami, God help them all.

  • Well, so far the waves hitting the OR and WA coasts have been minor (2-5 ft) but obviously Japan has suffered greatly. But knowing the resilence of them, they'll be cleaning up the mess soon.

Notice many buildings cracked, but no big ones fell. Shows they know a thing or three about building to withstand earthquakes.

  • How devastating,sad ...

My thoughts and prayers are with people in there.

    Mother nature...over powering some time.

  • More than 10,000 people have died so far. Devastation is everywhere and citizens of Japan are still looking for family. No power or food or heat to keep them warm. Tragic event.

It is indeed a very tragic event and will take months if not years to put things back to how they should be.  Plus the nuclear reactors fears after two explosions at the Fukushima number 1 plant.

  • I've been thru some stuff in my life but I can't even imagine what it has to be like for those poor people.Where and how do you even begin to rebuild?

I'm watching the news as I write this and they highlighted a woman's plight to find her 99 year old mother.  The "road" that she lived in is just a mass of broken bits of wood and the woman is struggling to see exactly where her mother's house used to be.    That's just one case and no doubt there are many thousands like it.

The economy in Japan is falling through the floor and the banks have injected 15 trillion yen to try and keep it stable but the market dropped 6% Friday and it can only get worse.

The nuclear rods are now exposed at one of the nuclear plants - people are losing their lives at these power plants from the explosions.  160 people have been quarantined because they have been directly exposed to radiation.

This isn't over yet and Japan has a long long road ahead.  It is just so sad.

  • I have some family members in Japan and they live in a different area but how can I say thank God they are okay cause of so many hundreds are out of foods and water beside of damages.
It is a one of the worse tragical disasters in history and hopeless moments in many lives right now.
Only wish things will get better somehow and proves that there is a miracle!

  • I am now truly devastated and freaking out...
This is more than just tragedy but heartbreaking!!!
I can't get any new news from my family in there any more and found out that they lost electricity even in Tokyo.
Things are getting so much harder and unimaginable and what makes it worse is that there is a chance of getting worsen..can't stop watching the news even though it makes me cry.
Please pray for everyone in Japan!

  • nan, of course we are praying for all affected by the tragedy; don't lose hope.  Know that the whole world is struggling along with you to make sense of these tragic days.  God works in mysterious ways and the people of Japan are strong and resilient.  I hope that you will soon get news from your family there, and that all are okay!

  • I can understand you worrying Nan. I hope and pray your family are safe and that you hear news from them soon.  This is an extremely worrying time.

  • Heard this morning an interview with a US family that has lived in Tokyo for 20 years that the government is really down playing the severity of the nuclear plant leak. It is now reported that the leak is 100 times more than it should be in a year's span.

He is a professor at a college and his students are sneezing, experiencing itchy eyes and sore throats. The professor said a big rain is due tomorrow which could really intensify the nuclear leak in the atmosphere.

My heart and soul goes out to all of Japan. Nan be strong as the people of Japan are and keep the faith. Our prayers are with you and yours and all the victims of this terrible tragedy.

  • Folks in Tokyo are trying hard to get out of the city.  The people are being so very calm about everything, and polite and orderly.  They need to hear the truth.  I heard it was going to snow but not sure if that is better or worse than rain for this situation.  I am concerned for any babies still inside their moms, and any being conceived in the midst of the chaos.  I have seen a documentary about the babies from Chernobyl, and it was just so awfully sad.
I know if this happened in America, there would be such panic going on.  Probably lots of human violence, and looting and shooting, too.  I would hope not, but we don't do well under pressure.

  • Yes, now the Nuke plants are leaking. This could be a diaster close to Chernobyl or even the Indonesia Tsunami.

As one poster pointed out, people are not looting, in fact many businesses are giving FREE food and rice and staples to help out as they can. Geeze, I wish the average USA citizen could get a gander at their attitude when dealing with a crisis.

Plus, don't forget. If the worst possible thing happens (Melt down) they have people standing by ready to start covering it and you damn well know they'll die within days of doing such.

In conclusion I will say that if I had to bet on recovery. Japan will beat Haiti out for fastest recovery only because of the people of the country and their love for it.

  • Thanks all for the prayers and comforts...
I and my family in N. Calif.are waiting to be heard from Red Cross for more information on my two aunts, their husbands and three cousins being. I feel so guilty to even sitting in here in comfort.
    It's like a nightmare that won't end.
I too am humbled and impressed by how citizens of Japan coping with this horrific tragedy.
There are no riots or looting, I saw people standing in line to get food or use the telephone and each respected each other and waited patiently...they are strong willed people.
God comforts them in their griefs, and that they make a speedy recovery from this terrible disaster...

  • We could definately learn from the people of Japan on how to handle something so tragic..no looting, rioting, acting like fools. They are trully a honorable people. My prayers are with them and of course with nan and her family.

  • As if the Japanese haven't had enough to contend with what with the earthquake, the tsunami, the nuclear plants blowing up, now the temperatures are plummeting to -5 and there is snow in North Japan.

How much more do these people have to take?

  • Aw, it's so sad. Their strength definitely being tested during this time. What a shame. Such a beautiful country.

Prayers are with you and your family nan  kiss

    Amen to that.

Wnan,  My thoughts are with you.  I wish I could offer something helpful to you during this awful time but I know there are no words to take away the worry.  Please know I am thinking of you and your family and hoping you get in contact with them very soon.
