Hi Members,

Is fidelity impossible? With the number of couples splitting up due to be unfaithful, is it unnatural for humans to have one partner and stay monogamous. Before man became civilized, having many partners was a natural instinct.

Starting with sexual revolution exploded in the 70’s, the divorce rate has steadily climbed. Many reasons for relationships ending are unhappiness in the bedroom or a cheating partner.

Even in the most ideal relationships…..couples who seem to “have it all” end up straying. There a many excuse for this……I was bored….i needed some excited…you weren’t attentive to my needs….our intimacy became too routine….etc.

All couples go into a marriage with the mind set to be faithful to death to us part. Unfortunately the fire and passion too often fades to dust.

Man has evolved into a society of a one partner commitment. Yet, the battle to remain monogamous is still there for so many. Has man raised the bar to a level of commitment that is a fighting inner struggle to attain?

Monogamy……..is it impossible?

Well, if "some" couples would take their time to know another, not just rush into marriage, you'd see a major drop in divorce. You'll always have males/females who just want something new every so often.

I don't believe we are designed to be monogamous...we are animals after all.
However, we also evolved and have working brains capable of self awareness, so it's quite possible to 'choose' to remain faithful and monogamous and act against our baser instincts.
It comes down to choice.

Very well said 13oclock. I agree with your opinion 100%! I do think its  a matter of choice and self control.

You know me, I will answer this somewhat academically.  Based on morals and/or religion, YES, being monogamus is very possible.  However, there is a great deal of good research that reveals, especially for men, we are hard-wired (no pun intended) to "spead seed."
