Hi Gang: Ever wonder why it is sooooo fun at the casino and sooooo hard to leave? Casinos love to do anything they can to make us stay as long as possible. Obviously the longer we are there the more money we will spend. $$$$ Just today I recieved a offer for a free room for the Indian casino I go to. Don't you know I took it!!! Now I don't know if all this is still the case but a while ago casinos in Vegas did all this to make a guest stay as long as possible. *Free Rooms * Free Smokes * Free Drinks * Free Food * Show tickets Now this is not to be confused with your Comps. This stuff is absolutley free, and you dont need to redeem any of your points to get them. Anyone else know of any other things casinos do for us to get us to stay? Myself, I don't need any tempting, or freebies. I am happy to stay as long as possible anyways. How about the lighting, making it seem dark and cozy. How about the rumor of sending air freshing scents thru the casino tthat put you in a good mood. Oh, those tricky little casinos.... All in fun: PMM2008

I go to the casinos in Biloxi Mississippi a couple of times a year and they are constantly sending me coupons for free room for 3 nights and free food. They also put free gameplay on my players club card. I usually get them from 2 casinos I play at but they send the offers at the same time and they expire at the same time. LOL It's hard to turn down.

Notice (If when you go) the color schemes in the casino. Glarish and eye painful in areas they don't want you to stay in.
Because they want you to go and spend money.
I remember when at Circus Circus, was on a nickle machine and it was doing ok and a waitress came by and got me a beer (I was drinking Rainer at the time) and about every 30 minutes, she'd be by with a beer without asking me.
Yep, she got a handful of nickles each time (I'm suspecting as I have large hands) the tip was $2 and up!
BUt the service was great. NOw I jsut wonder, if I'd bee palying on a $1 machine what I'd have gotten??? (BEG)

Hi PMM,
I know a trick in Vegas that they use is to pump oxygen in the casino to keep ya awake! What also amazes me is you will never ever find a clock in a casino. It doesnt matter if its 6 am or 6 pm...the drinks flow the party continues and the gambling never stops.
I get most of my comps from the Harrahs Group. I can go to virutally any casino in the country that is a Harrah's owned property and stay free. The best comp i ever got was the first time i ever went to Harrah's casino.
Shortly after going i recieved a letter in the mail...free flight..free room for the two for 3 nites! Man they saw me coming.....and ya wonder why im hooked on Harrahs...wink

The casinos know how to play on our emotions and hopes. They are experts at it. They know how to set a mood to draw you in, and keep you there. They have thought everything out very carefully. Not much is left to chance. A few more examples.... Few or no windows. Repetitive patterns on floors and walls. The MAZE trick..(like how do I get out of here?) Locations of restrooms and cashier booths..(IN the MIDDLE of the casino) Hypnotic displays.... All that "Sound and Action" I'm but a mouse, trying to get thru the maze, to get the cheese!!!

Okay....this really gets the psychologist in me pumping! (No, I don't practice anymore!) A BIGGIE: Lights and sounds. The flashing lights have a "hypnotic" effect on the brain. The lights from the slots, etc. stimulate the pleasure part of the brain (ventral tegmental area, or VTA) that releases dopamine, as it is associated with motivation and reward. This is similar to the "oh wow" fixation you get when you watch a fireworks show. The sounds do the same thing. So, yeah, it is a bit of mind control. When I gamble online I turn the sound off and dim the lighting to a minimum.
What really hooks me is those free game playing vouchures they send me! And the free food!

Been reading on Slot Machine ergonomics. Make slot play as comfortable as possible. Modern day slots are designed for a seated player who will hopefully spend hours pushing the spin button. To get the player to do this it is up to the slot makers to not only maker their games more entertaining but to make sure the player enjoying maximum comfort while playing. An uncomfortable player will not stay at the machine as long as one who is. They study things such as: Eye strain Wrist and fingers Posture Neck and shoulders Perhaps one day we'll see a recliner with a slot machine attatched?

My favorite is Free Play. These are coupons my local native casino sends me for free play without using comps. I get three through the course of teh month and automatically get $25 every Tues and Thurs. It makes it tough not to go in when I know I have money I can play and win with. Granted. they know I am a good bet since I will spend whatever I win on free money. It is all in good fun and as long as no one loses an eye......? Incidentally, you are all coirrect. I used to work at this casino and there are lots of little things a casino will do to make you want to stay! Now, as customer, I can see they all work.

When I used to go to Mohegan Sun all the time, they would always come up to me while I was playing and give me tickets for the nights event..I still have a couple of $250. tickets to the fights they gave me, and they constantly gave me free tickets into the VIP ROOM. I hardly ever made it to the events..to busy gambling, but if I could drag myself away from a machine for a few, the VIP ROOM was well worth it. Lobster, Steak, really anything..awesome food and drink on the house. I wish I took advantage of that more often..it was so worth it. Almost made giving them the money back less painful
