Pai Gow Poker is played with a standard 52 card deck from which all the jokers, except one, have been taken out. There are a total of six players plus the dealer at the table. The objective is that each player attempts to defeat the dealer.

Similar to most forms of poker, the play begins by placing the ante bet. The dealer then deals each player seven cards. Five cards are arranged in one hand, called the “High Hand.” Two cards are arranged in the other hand, called the “Low Hand”. There are other names for the hands including, front and behind, and top and bottom.

Pai Gow Poker’s winning combinations are somewhat unlike other kinds of poker. There are two main differences. First, Pai Gow uses a deck of 53 cards, the extra being a joker called the Wild Card. Second, if the player’s and the dealer’s hand result in the same value, the dealer wins the bet.
