In the single player version, anywhere between five and eight packs of standard 52-card decks are used, and generally the deck is reshuffled every time over 10% of the cards are used up. In this way, the game is kept fair. The Single Player version can either be played as a single hand, or a multi-hand version.
The object of the game, as with any other Blackjack game, is to collect cards until one has a hand that is worth 21 without exceeding this total. Once a player holds cards whose total is more than 21, the player goes “bust” and the cards are discarded. To determine the value of the player’s hand, each card is assigned a value, and the sum of the individual values of the cards gives the total value of the hand. The card values are determined by a simple rule. All cards between 2 and 10 are taken at face value. The Ace card can be worth either 1 point or 11 points, and can be decided by the player at the time of counting. The remaining cards (Jack, Queen and King) are worth 10 points each. When the hand contains a face card along with an Ace, the hand is called a Blackjack.
The game is played between a player and a dealer. The player and the dealer are dealt two cards each, and the totals are compared. If either of them holds a Blackjack they win, otherwise the player can choose to take another card. The totals are then compared, and the total that is closest to 21 without going bust wins.
