Playing Hi-Low is the same as playing any other poker game, except that before either the showdown or the last round of betting (depending on the dealer’s choice), the players must declare if they are aiming for the low poker or the high poker. Players declaring that they are going for a high hand place a chip in their palm while players going for the low hand display an empty palm. If any player is the sole claimant to either the high or low poker hand, then he/she automatically wins half the pot. Once the declaration is over, there is a showdown and the winners are declared. In case the pot has to be divided unevenly, either the high hand player takes the indivisible amount, or the dealer can choose to carry the amount over to the next pot.
