Visa Electron Introduction
Visa Electron is a credit or debit card introduced by VISA in the 1980s. It is considered a sister card to the Visa Debit with some minor difference. The card is not available in certain countries like Canada, Australia and the United States. The peculiarity of the Visa Electron card is that in different regions, it is issued with different specifications. Some banks issue it as a debit card, while others issue it as a credit card. The Visa Electron has a different logo to that of the Visa debit and credit cards. The logo has the word VISA in blue on a white background, with an orange flick on the V, underneath this is the word Electron printed in black. The Visa Electron card does not feature the dove hologram that is printed on normal Visa cards. Another special feature of this card is that the numbers are embedded and not raised and this means that the card can only be used electronically.
How does Visa Electron Work?
The difference between a Visa Electron card and a Visa Debit card is that the Visa Electron has a requirement that all the funds are available at the time of transfer, whether it is used as a debit or a credit card. Due to this clause, while applying for a Visa Electron card, the bank will ask you for proof of regular income or proof of financial assets invested elsewhere. In comparison, the Visa Debit card allows you to transfer unavailable funds under a certain limit. Apart from this minor difference, the Visa Electron card works just like any other debit or credit card. When making a purchase, the cardholder agrees to pay Visa Electron the amount of the purchase, and in return, Visa Electron will transfer the amount to the merchant or vendor. The agreement is authorised by the cardholder entering the card number and other personal information. In addition to verifying the validity of a card, the VISA system will also check if the cardholder has sufficient funds to complete that transaction. Once the cardholder fits all the criteria, the purchase goes through. Visa Electron cards can only be verified electronically.
Visa Electron Pros and Cons
The Visa electron has some drawbacks, chief among them being the fact that Visa Electron cards are not widely accepted. This is owing to the fact that the card can only be verified electronically. This means that certain online stores and casinos will decline to accept transactions made using a Visa Electron card. However, there are still many casinos that accept the Visa Electron. The benefits of owning this card are manifold. The card has a low interchange fee, which means that merchants that usually charge a service fee for credit/debit card purchases are generally willing to waive it if you are using a Visa Electron card. Due to the fact that every transaction requires the cardholder’s funds to be checked, banks are willing to issue Visa Electron cards to clients who would otherwise not qualify for a credit card. The card also ensures that you will not overdraw on your account.
