Visa Debit Introduction
The Visa Debit card was previously known as the Visa Delta. It is the Visa Corporation’s major debit card and is available in the UK and Ireland. There are many banks which issue Visa Debit cards including Barclays Bank, Lloyds TSB, HSBC and Abbey. There have been some financial institutions that prefer the Visa Debit to the Switch (Maestro) card because the Maestro originally had some issues with the chip and pin rollout.MasterCard’s Maestro and Debit MasterCard are the main competitors to the Visa Debit card. Many banks are now choosing to change from Maestro to Visa Debit because Visa is more widely accepted in the UK and around the world. The Visa Debit card has some interesting additional features, like the ability to overdraw on your account within a certain limit.
The Visa Debit card’s logo has changed through the years, along with its name. The Visa Delta card had Visa’s flag logo which was the logo of the BankAmeriCard program. The new Visa Delta logo is a blue VISA on a simple white background, and the character V has an orange flick on it, immediately below this logo, the word Debit is printed in black. All Visa Debit cards feature Visa’s dove hologram
How does Visa Debit Work?
The Visa Debit card can be used similar to that Visa Credit Card; however retailers in some countries accept it as a debit card instead of a regular Visa card. If the card is used as a debit card, the usual transaction fee to the merchant (usually around 2% of the purchase price) is waived, and instead Visa levies a fixed charge (approximately 50p per transaction). The difference between the credit card and the debit card is that in the case of the Visa Debit card, the card is directly linked to the cardholder’s bank account. It is for this reason that, in order to possess a Visa Debit card from a particular bank, it is necessary to hold an account in that particular bank.In order to make a purchase of credits in an online casino, the cardholder simply clicks on the VISA logo, and enters the card details in the appropriate location. Once this is completed, the card is verified by Visa’s clearing system. Once the card details are verified, the bank account is checked to see if there are sufficient funds, and the cardholder is allowed to overdraw on his/her account below a certain limit.
All VISA transactions are secured by the Verified by Visa system. Along with this, the Visa Debit card offers other security features such as raised numbers, the Visa hologram which features a dove that appears to be in flight and a magnetic strip. The back of the card also has the CVV number which is used to verify the identity of the cardholder. There is also a signature panel on the back of the card that is tamper proof.
