The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Wisconsin is the first tribe to accept the Tribal Internet Gaming Alliance treaty which is designed to bring the federal government and tribes together to create one online gambling platform.
A Lac du Flambeau band spokesperson said that the treaty does not require a business venture but rather creates an opportunity for tribes to address laws and regulations and may be opted out of at any point.
The spokesman also claimed that the treaty will help the Lac du Flambeau Band reach its goal of becoming the forefront of internet gambling.
