Update: Severe Opposition to Legalization in Utah

Online gambling not acceptable in the US State

Although the DoJ's changed position on online gambling seems to be observed as an opportunity to raise additional revenues by many of the US states, it’s not the case with Utah, which still strongly opposes the pastime.

Namely, an announcement arrived this week from Republican Congressman and member of the Utah House of Representatives, Stephen Sandstrom, that he is to commit to opposition to any legalization attempts on both state and federal level, and that he has been drafting a bill that will make online gambling actively prohibited on the state level, and see the state opt out of any federal legalization of online poker or gambling.

Apparently, his bill will come as an amendment of the House Bill 104, also known as the Alcoholic Beverage Licensees and Gambling-Like Activities, which will reinforce its provisions and specifically include internet gambling.

According to Sandstrom, “We want to keep Utah free from the negative impacts of legalised gambling. The US Department of Justice’s conveniently issued legal opinion is a desperate attempt to try and fix today’s recessive economy, [and] it’s clear that President Obama’s fiscal policies have been a complete failure. This latest move by the Department of Justice will only serve to harm all Americans economically and socially in the long-run.”
