The Romanian gambling authority, Oficiul National pentru Jocuri de Noroc (ONJN), has announced earlier this year that they have blacklisted several websites that have been operating without proper licensing. Now they went a bit further and announced that regular citizens that gamble on such blacklisted websites could be fined, according to Romanian news television Digi 24. The fines will be between 5,000 and 10,000 RON (between 1130 and 2260 Euro).
ONJN also extended the initial blacklist with an additional 100 websites. If you are a Romanian gambler you will have to check the ONJN website first, see if your favourite casino or betting operator is on the blacklist or not, and then make the choice whether to gamble there or not. The website is available both in Romanian and in English. The Romanian gambling authority has announced that anyone who uses the unlicensed websites for gambling after September 10th is liable to be fined.

Romanian gambling authority, Oficiul National pentru Jocuri de Noroc, boy that sure is a mouth full. It sounds like they mean business. I just wonder how they will locate a player? Do they not have privacy laws? It seem like they probably don't. I'm very thankful that I don;t live in Romania. If there is a big online presence...

Do they not have privacy laws? It seem like they probably don't. I'm very thankful that I don;t live in Romania. If there is a big online presence then these casino sites need to get those credentials before it hurts there pocket books. To all of those who live in Romania and love the online gaming sites, look out and make sure the site you like is not on that list....or you will be depositing your money elsewhere.

Wow! That is intense. Here in Denmark if you gamble at an unlicensed online casino you have to pay taxes on the winnings as far as I know there are no other legal sanctions against players. I read this some time ago. But maybe I should research that more carefully...it could be quite important.

First of all, thank you LCB for the news! Almost same situation here in Greece trying to regulate this chaos market. After 2 years of regulation they have given licence to only dozen casinos and blacklisted many of them. Luckily I am able to play in many casinos that I like since the state is not able to keep track or block all the online casinos. Few online poker sites like Full Tilt and Pokerstars have even reached an aggrement to the state and the Greek players have to pay vast taxes from their own winnings, in result to be unprofitable to play there. I hope they will not start fining the players as they have said in Greece, Romania or any other countries that have same regulations.

Nothing like frying the minnows and letting the big fish have no consequences. Fining players and not prosecuting the product provider is a painfully slow way of solving a tax problem.

I do not see a problem. If someone is not authorized for something, should be punished. Every state takes their policy ... and we have to respect it. They probably have a reason to make a black list. The Romanians know best whether it's justified or not.

Unbelievable, have you guys seen the blacklist ? 90% of the listed casinos are 100% trustworthy. It is disgusting that governments can't deal with REAL problems but are able to create laws for a minority of Romanians.

Wow, a lot of different opinions about these blacklisted sites. If these illegal sites are making good money, wonder why they don't become legal, or can they become legal. If the Romanian government went as far as to blacklist these sites, why don't they just block them like many other countries do. Honestly, I think most gamblers, no matter where they are from, belong to a forum or gambling site like LCB or they belong to LCB. Either way, they're not stupid. If they are going to get into gambling, they should keep up with what is going on in their country and decide what is best for them. We're all adults here, aren't we...........

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if my country's government would do this too. Most gambling sites are blocked and I use a proxy to access them, but I still keep playing more in those places where I don't need it. I know that Romania is very often a restricted country so I feel bad about them. If I was a citizen there,...

Only hope is that sites will buy those expensive licenses and will be acessable again.

There is a big population and loads of people, who have gambling addiction/problems. The gov made a move, gaComm took the responsibilities... Every time, there are plenty of unsatisfied players/people. That's for ages. But there are responsible groups/organisations also. I take them. Gambling problems are so big, nowadays. I most worry for teenagers, who are living in "golden era". Smartphones, easy money, rich life. It finally goes grows to big probs. In the other hand, people who want to gamble and can afford it, should have to be free to choose, where to play or not. This is the human right, yeah?:-) God bless You all !

I mean im all for casinos being blacklisted but fining players is totally not fair, because a lot of people will not even be aware that this is going to happen, so majority of romanians won't even know they have to check a site first before they play at an online casino. Shocking in my opinion, totally unfair. so they will lose in a casino then they get fined for playing in a blacklisted one :(
