Back Playtech Appoints New Social Gaming Chief

News came this week that the former chief exec of Best Casinos and social gaming business Diwip, Dan Wiegenfeld, has been appointed as head of the social gaming operations at Playtech.

From the newly-created position Wiegenfeld will manage the online gambling development company’s B2B and B2C social operations and report to vice president of operations Shimon Akad.

So far it is not known wheter Diwip will replace Wiegenfeld, as the company’s co-founders, CTO Yaniv Gamzo and CPO Udi Kantzuker will handle his CEO responsibilities for the immediate future.

It is also currently being speculated that Playtech may also seek to supply software to social gaming operators in B2B deals.

Regarding the appointment, Playtech chief executive Mor Weizer pointed out Weigenfeld’s excellent record in social gaming, describing him as "...one of the most talented people in the industry.”

And Wiegenfeld’s CV indeed proves Weizer right – from the Israeli military where he rose to the rank of major in the engineers to a number of start-ups in the domain of marketing analytics and customer relationship software, and senior positions such as the one in Diwip – he’s done it all.

Diwip has had a lot of success since Wiegenfeld joined – the company has seen year-on-year player growth of 500 percent, with monthly actives rising from 300,000 in May 2011 to over 2 million now.
