Party-Bwin Merger Gets Highly Qualified Chairman

Enlarged Group to be chaired by Simon Duffy

Following Party Gaming's report on their Q3 revenue results, the company also announced that the position of non-executive chairman of Party-BWin merged groups is now to be occupied by Simon Duffy (60). Duffy has an Oxford University MA and a Harvard Business School MBA. He has previously been on various executive and non-executive positions, covering a number of business domains and companies. He will step on and take the position when the merger is completed, in the first quarter of 2011.

This highly experienced professional was executive chairman of Tradus plc, an online retailer in Central and Eastern Europe (From 2007 until 2008). Before that, he served as an executive vice chairman of ntl: Telewest Inc. (now Virgin Media Group), while previously he occupied the position of president, chief executive officer and chief operating officer of ntl Inc., a NASDAQ-listed company which turned into a crucial part of VMG.

Before Duffy joined ntl, he was Orange SA’s chief financial officer, and prior to that he served as a CEO of Danish End2End AS wireless data company, to which he transferred from Dutch ISP WorldOnline International BV.

Another eight years before all these positions, he spent as a group finance director and deputy chairman at EMI Group plc.

Here are some non-executive offices he occupied:

GWR Group plc, Thames Television plc, HMV Media Group plc, Gartmore plc, Imperial Tobacco Group plc, Berisford plc, Cantab Pharmaceuticals plc (Chairman), iMedia Holdings Limited (Chairman), Amteus plc, Tiscali S.p.A. and the Intellectual Property Institute.

Apart from this, Simon Duffy is also on the British-American Project advisory board, and the NSPCC corporate development board.

Another top position in the merger, the deputy chairman’s, will be taken by Rod Perry, who currently operates as the chairman of Party Gaming.

The prospective Co-CEOs of the new merger Jim Ryan and Norbert Teufelberger, issued a joint statement regarding the new member of the team:

“We are delighted that Simon, with his wealth of business experience from a career spanning many different industries and companies, will become chairman when our transformational merger is complete. His achievements from working with consumer-facing businesses, especially those in the entertainment and online industries, will be an invaluable resource for us as we seek to exploit the significant opportunities that we expect to flow from the continued expansion of the online gaming industry.”

On the other side, Duffy said: “I very much look forward to becoming chairman when PartyGaming and Bwin join forces. They are unquestionably two of the online gaming industry’s pioneers and great successes in their own right. Together, they are set to create a true global champion in the field of online gaming and eCommerce, a business sector that is clearly destined to expand.”
