Portuguese punters and online gambling operators are awaiting one very special date. June 28, 2015 marks the first day of online gambling licensing and regulation.
The issue has been a source of debate over the last 10 years or so but the Secretary of State for Tourism, Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, announced the launch date Wednesday. Players within Portugal’s borders will be able to gamble online and those outside of Portugal will be able to play on Portuguese licensed and regulated sites.
“We are preparing everything so that on June 28 the technical control structure is operating," Nunes said.
"The intention is to sign up as many operators as possible, particular international ones.”
Licensing and regulation will be handled by Santa Casa de Misericordia de Lisboa. Government revenue will be generated through the issuance of three year licenses.
Conditions of licensing will require operators to provide financial guarantees, maintain local representation and use Portuguese banks.
Online Gambling Becomes Legal in Portugal in June 2015

THe idea of having a representative present is a good idea. Have fun you guys!

I guess many people in Portugal were all ready playing at the online casinos and probably it will be a formality for them that the online gambling in the country will be legalized. But without a doubt it's a great news for all other Portuguese players and in 21-th century anyone have to be able to access the gambling opportunities...

Congratulations to the Portuguese players. I'm sure to them it seems a long time coming. I am also intrigued by the phrase " those outside of Portugal will be able to play on Portuguese licensed and regulated sites." What does "those outside of Portugal" mean. Everybody, I doubt that. Congratulations to the Portuguese players. I'm sure to them it seems a long time coming. I am also intrigued by the phrase " those outside of Portugal will be able to play on Portuguese licensed and regulated sites." What does "those outside of Portugal" mean. Everybody, I doubt that. Those where it is legal to gamble, probably. So, I wonder if they are going to welcome US players. They are inviting international operators, maybe that is a good sign. But, even it it doesn't include the US player, this is a good thing for the Portuguese players as well as the rest of the world. It is progress..............
