UK psychologists at Warwick University claim that the risks that gamblers make are similar to the actions of greedy pigeons.
"Both humans and pigeons were shown to be less risk averse for high rewards than they were for low rewards and this is linked to our past memories and experiences of making risky decisions," said Dr. Elliot Ludvig,, one of the authors.
"When people gamble, they often rely on past experiences with risk and rewards to make decisions. What we found in this study is that both gamblers and pigeons used these past experiences in very similar ways to guide their future gambling decisions."
"Birds are distantly related to humans, yet we still share the same basic psychology that drives risk-taking," Ludvig said. "This may be due to a shared common ancestry or similar evolutionary pressures."

I wonder who came up with that one. Pigeons huh. It sounds like some guy/lady or in this case, some dirty bird with a chip on their shoulder, LOL, needed to lash-out on gamblers. Well, I will try not to take it personally.

I really hope this is a joke article. Because what really takes the example of someone acting like a pigeon is the people who did this non related research. I really hope this is a joke article. Because what really takes the example of someone acting like a pigeon is the people who did this non related research. I hope that these people are not getting paid to do such non sense. And if they are I hope its not money that was donated or government funded. If it was then someone needs to really look at this company and what they are doing with their funding. Because this article seems like someone spent money and needed to provide a research to fill that missing money and while thinking about it they happen to be sitting on a bench in a park with pigeons and on their cell phone online gaming and must have lost;;;;;;;; taking it out in a so called "research article".

I wonder what a study of politicians would show? Bird brained indeed. Another example of wasteful spending.

You can't rely on those studies cause all of them are just to get some publicity and to raise credits. We can be compared to any animal they choose, but at the end humans are the most complex system of any other. If us gamblers are like pigeons then so is every body else who has a vice of some sort.. its a strange observation IMO, especially because animals are usually assumed to be acting on instinct, whereas a large part of what makes us human is the ability to gauge this risk/reward scenario, weigh up the pros and cons, and make...
