Despite League’s position, some within it may not find gambling so negative

An interesting allegation arrived this week, speculation of a possible union, which only days before would seem unlikely, due to the National Football League’s negative position on gambling.

Namely, it has been reported that a Vegas gambling mogul Steve Wynn and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft were spotted together at a game this weekend. Reportedly, the two were engaged in a discussion on "...what could be a very profitable business venture" with a few selected area residents.

Apparently, their idea is to jointly build a $1 billion gambling resort just beyond the end zone at Gillette Stadium – an idea that could easily face opposition from the NFL, whose anti-gambling position has been so clearly expressed that it does not even allow Super Bowl commercials with gambling content, and it has only recently allowed Las Vegas to be mentioned in ads during games, at the same time keeping the ban on publication of the identity of specific casinos, or any references to any kind of gambling.

The NFL club owner, Kraft may be viewing this as a way to capitalize on the new state law authorizing three resort casinos in Massachusetts, by being involved in the building of one in the shadow of the Patriots’ stadium.

A similar venture may soon be attempted by the Miami Dolphins, provided that the state of Florida decides to expand its land gambling options.

According to the Associated Press, which reported on these developments, "The fact that league rules technically prohibit casino ownership won't likely matter in this rush for riches. There's too much money at stake, and too many billionaires chasing it for some antiquated policies to stand in their way.

"Getting a piece of the casino gambling pie isn't much of a leap from there, and Kraft surely wouldn't have been hosting Wynn at Sunday's game if he didn't think a casino next to his stadium was doable."
