This week, the Sydney Morning Herald published the details of an attempted $32 million cheating attempt associated with a PR scam to sell the world’s most expensive cocktail.
Readers were reminded of when Crown Casino in Australia initiated a PR exercise based on a A$12,500 cocktail at its Club 23 bar, owned by WSOP champion Joe Hachem, cricket star Shane Warne and casino owner James Packer, in 2013.
The goal was to see New Zealand millionaire and VIP gambler James Manning earn a spot in the Guinness Book of Records by buying the "The Winston", which was a cocktail blended with 1858-vintage Croizet Cuvee Leonie cognac that was flown in Australia.
"What Crown didn't know was that Manning had friends on the inside," according to the newspaper. The night before the PR cocktail stunt was to occur, "Manning embarked on an extraordinary winning streak on the card tables. Eight winning hands in the streak, which netted $32 million."
When talking to the newspaper this week, a former Crown executive said, "We could not believe what he had won and some of the bets he placed were very, very suspicious. Those eight hands, in particular - he bet against the odds and won, so one of our surveillance guys decided to take a closer look."
Video surveillance alerted staff that there was a breach in Crown's network of cameras in the VIP room and Manning was receiving signals at the table. Crown discovered that its VIP services manager was involved in the "very elaborate" scheme.
Manning did not leave the casino with his winnings and the Crown did not proceed with filing charges against him.

I am surprised they don't have an annual "GamGreedy" gathering of the greedy cheaters clubs across the globe, where they give awards for the biggest cheats., with gold "plated" trophy in the shape of shifty eyes. ha funny cheese and crackers folks. Obviously this guy was very lucky not to face any charges against him for his actions. I guess we can call him a VIP cheater :) It's still not very clear for me how he succeed in cheating the casino with all the new modern safeguard measures that the casinos have but I guess any system can be outsmarted. Almost there:)

32 Millions, not a bad sum, huh? I think the casino didn't charge this hero-guy, because he was not left the casino and the whole 32 millions will comeback to the casino soon :-D or at least 50% of them will be lost in the future, that's for sure ( or could it be scenario of the deal he made between casino). Not sure, how...

Not sure, how the nowadays security systems and scasino security bears workss, but from time to time we heard about such stories with great show by cheaters against casino! I would liek to congratulate the brave guy and hope he will get some of his dirty money on his back! :D

It's really interesting and creative how some people try to make a big profit (of course with fraud), if I understood correctly, the player himself was already a millionaire, why he still participates in something so stupid and risky is of course questionable, at least it was fortunately the scam was indeed uncovered.

But I guess he cannot visit this casino anymore! :D But if seriously, I think you need strong guts to try to pull this maneuvre off, I would never cheat in a casino, I am too superstitous and heartbroken to lose such an amount because of cheating.. And probably after this he won't be welcomed in most casinos that know who he is.. And yes, the fact that a casino emplyee was involved in this situation is serious, if I was a boss there, I would fire him and put up charges.

i agree with pinkxxx. the guy is very lucky to have gotten out of that situation with essentially barely a slap on the hand. Whatever happened to wiseguys breaking your fingers with a hammer when u got caught cheating at theor casino? Additionally I agree that the casino itself needs alot better internal measures to control...

That whole scenario was messed up . The guy first off is lucky he got off with just a ban for trying to cheat the casino. They need to monitor employees better so cheating with help from the inside doesn't occur. Cheaters never win comes to mind . The most ridiculous was the lame 12,000 drink promo / world record thing...

They need to monitor employees better so cheating with help from the inside doesn't occur. Cheaters never win comes to mind . The most ridiculous was the lame 12,000 drink promo / world record thing going . Shame on the casino for that one . Staging a buyer ....that's low . Paying him back and having him pose as such is lame . They should have just cancelled it or prolonged it til a real buyer would have emerged. Im sure some rich or lucky player would have took the deal for publicity . Shaking my head at the whole article .
